Dorset Family Photography: Creating Lasting Memories

Is it just me or with all the busy school runs, taxiing to after school clubs and play dates family life can feel hectic?! Our children really are growing up so quickly aren't they? That's why I love being able to press pause for a moment and document your amazing family, just as they are, in stunning images through my family portrait photography sessions in Dorset.

Are you thinking of having a family shoot? As a Dorset family photography (and a mum of three!) here are my tips on how to prepare for a family photography shoot!

First, decide on a location!

Being an outdoor family photographer I love that we have some many beautiful light filled spots perfect for an photoshoot here in Dorset. It can be anywhere that is special to your family or has meaning to you. You might absolutely love hanging out at Sandbanks or Studland beach and would love having your memories captured at one of these beautiful coastal spots. Or you might have a special countryside spot which is special to your family like Badbury Rings or Upton Country Park.

Coordinating outfits always look best in photos. However, don’t be afraid to let your personality shine through by adding a pop of colour or pattern but most importantly you should make sure you feel comfortable and feel like you! Once you have booked your session you'll receive my guide to getting ready for the session which has lots of ideas for outfit combinations.

I know as a busy parent of three, that there’s little chance of a child standing still, smiling straight at the camera, and disregarding the interesting surroundings around them on your family portrait shoot. It’s what makes the child who they are! There will be no need to 'smile for the lady'. My relaxed and patient approach to my photography will make you feel at ease. I love to capture your beautiful family just as they are, having fun and enjoying each other's company which I can document in candid, timeless, natural family photographs that you will treasure for years to come! Can I bring our dog to the family portrait shoot? Absolutely! Your four legged best friend is very welcome on your photoshoot. I love photographing the bond and relationship your children have with their special friend! What happens if is raining on the day? This is one downside to using the outdoors as a studio - our unreliable British weather! I usually keep a close eye on the forecast as the session date approaches but it's not a problem to reschedule if the weather happens to be very wet.

I'm nervous about having professional photos taken, do I need to pose?

I know you might be nervous about having your own picture taken (particularly us mums) but please don't worry. I know the best way to pose and flatter you to look your best! Do you use props? No, I generally don't use props in my photography as I like to capture you all just as you are! But please feel free to bring toys/teddies that might be special to your young children if you'd like to document those in your images. Can grandparents/extended family join in? Yes of course! I do offer extended family sessions which is a lovely way to getting all the family together! Do you offer gift vouchers? Yes I do, and this is a lovely ideas for a Christmas or birthday present! Where are you based? I'm a family photographer based in Poole. I cover Poole and Bournemouth and surrounding areas of Dorset.
