Photoshoots for Children and their Ponies :

Updated: Oct 12, 2023

As an equine photographer I love to get out and meet young equestrians and meet their wonderful equine friends. I had a brilliant day out over the summer meeting the children and families at the SDHPC equestrian event, their mini camp at Bovington, Dorset. I was struck by the how much fun the children were having on their ponies and how much support and camaraderie there was amongst the young group. It was great to meet Phillipa who had won my children's equine photoshoot for her daughters Ellie, Phoebe and Tilly, that I had hosted at the mini camp. I had the pleasure of being invited to her home weeks later and being back behind the camera to capture the charm of three sisters and their wonderful ponies in Sturminster Newton, Dorset. Arriving at their charming country property, I was struck by the fun Bell tent, snugly nestled within the picturesque landscape. What an idyllic set up for for the girls to enjoy cosy sleepovers in over the summer holidays!

The Equine Photoshoot: Meet the Sisters and Their Ponies

The brilliant Ellie, Phoebe and Tilly!...These girls are thick as thieves with their ponies and with each other and I knew we'd be able to great some gorgeous memories for the family.

First up, we've got Ellie, the eldest, who's as horse-mad as they come who's lovingly adopted her mother's beloved horse 'Honey'. Then there's Phoebe, with her gentle pony Arthur and finally, there's little Tilly with her sweet pony, May. Together, they're like a whirlwind of laughter, and their ponies are definitely their partners in crime.

Preparation and Laughter: Setting the Scene

I always it's important to help prepare my clients before the photoshoot with a Getting Ready Guide. By the time the photoshoot day arrives, everyone is not only excited but also looking their absolute best. It really helps to make the session feel more relaxed and fun. It's a fantastic way to ensure that we make the most of our time together, creating memories that will be cherished for years to come. But it's not just about looking great in the photos; it's about capturing the essence of the bond between the riders and their horses. When everyone feels comfortable and stylish, it shines through in the pictures. So, whether it's a flowing dress, a smart riding outfit, or even a bit of bling for the horses, the Getting Ready Guide helps my clients make those important decisions well in advance. The girls had picked some brilliant outfits and this really helped to bring to life the special moments. The best equine photos happen when everyone's at ease, having a good time, and just living in the moment.

Now, imagine this scene: three sisters doubled over in laughter as they attempted to coax their mischievous ponies into posing for the camera who would rather eat grass that have their picture taken! I don't think I've ever been on an equine photoshoot with children and ponies that hasn't involve trying to get a greedy pony away from munching on luscious grass!

Capturing Memories of children and their equine best friends: The Equine Photoshoot

And let's not forget the candid shots – those precious moments when the ponies nuzzled their riders, and the sisters shared secret smiles. It's these special moments that really capture the essence of the bond and relationship between a horse and their rider.

This photo session was such a special way of documenting the friendship and bond the sisters share with each other and wonderful way of remembering the fun summer they shared at home, having a blast with their special ponies. I had such a brilliant time and the three sisters were such good fun to be around and their laughter was totally infectious! Thanks so much for having me Ellie, Phoebe and Tilly - you girls were superstars!

Cherishing the Memories and Making New Ones

Now, let's talk about why equine photography for children is so special. It's not just about snapping a moment; it's about capturing memories that'll put a smile on your face. It's about freezing the bond between a young rider and a horse, the joy of a summer's spent together, and the simple pleasure of being together with your pony.

To all of you reading this, I say this: don't wait for a special occasion to capture your own moments. Photography is such a wonderful to freeze your memories with timeless images that preserve those special moments between your children and their beloved ponies.
